gus.to: great enjoyment, energy, and enthusiasm

Home visits are always a whirlwind and when I was home in early October, I was glad to be able to catch up with friends Audrey and Tim who’ve recently started the F&B consultancy, Apple Pie Order.

The power duo were putting the finishing touches on their latest project, the renewal of the four-year-old Alfresco Gusto (now rebranded Gusto) at ION Orchard; and Jem, the hubs and I were lucky enough to be one of the first few to sample the inventive new dishes that are now staples on the menu.

Waiting to be fed

I’ve always had a soft-spot for Gusto, it’s almost like an oasis in the heart of Orchard Road where you can have a lazy lunch and just watch the world go by.  Now it’s made even better with a razor sharp focus on the food – small plates, pizza alongside pasta and risotto.  I must say that Tim’s done a great job with the menu.

Here are some of my favourites:

Spoilt for choice

Spoilt for choice

1) Squid Ink Risotto Balls – Gluten-free squid ink risotto is lightly breaded with corn bread and deep fried.  Just like having savoury cake pops for lunch!

2) Crab Shaker – Inspired by McD’s shaker fries, these soft shell crab morsels and shaken with a tasty, spicy salt and dunked in a rich sauce, we couldn’t get enough. Watch how it’s done, on our Instagram feed.

3) Tomato Beer – A refreshing, tasty starter that tastes as clean as it looks.

4) Lamb Ribs – What’s not to love about these corn-bread crusted delights that fall off the bone?  Oh yes, the syringe “delivers” the homemade tomato ketchup, in traditional Tim-style.

The cocktails look mighty fine as well,  I can’t wait to go back for a second visit, soon!
